MARC Travel Awards to the HCS 2010 Short Course and Histochemistry 2010

The FASEB Office of MARC and Professional Development Programs is offering travel awards for under-represented minority graduate students, postdoctorates, junior faculty (assistant professors within 1 year of appointment), and undergraduate students with higher-level chemistry and biology coursework to support participation in the Immunohistochemistry & Microscopy Short Course. Participation in this 4-day course is limited. The travel award amount is $1,850 and must be applied to related expenses including travel (air and ground transportation) and course registration for applicants who are approved to participate in the short course and receive approval for the travel award.

The travel awards will be processed as reimbursements to the award recipients. Receipts will be required in order to receive reimbursement. The maximum amount to be reimbursed for travel-related expenses will be indicated in the travel award recipient's award letter. The application deadline for MARC Travel Awards is February 19th, 2010.

Applicants selected to participate in this 4-day program will be notified by the FASEB MARC Program upon approval of their application.

Eligibility

Applicants must be junior faculty (assistant professors within 1 year of appointment), postdoctoral fellows, graduates students, or undergraduate students with higher-level chemistry and biology coursework from minority institutions and historically black colleges and universities. Under-represented minority junior faculty (assistant professors within 1 year of appointment), graduates students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate students with higher-level chemistry and biology coursework from majority institutions are also eligible to apply for the travel awards.

This travel award program is supported by a U.S.A. Federal training grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Institutes of Health (FASEB MARC Program: T36-GM08059-27.) Therefore, only U.S.A. citizens and Permanent Resident Aliens of the U.S.A. are eligible to apply. In addition, applicants must reside within the U.S.A. or U.S.A. territories. Permanent residents must provide proof of a valid green card.

Additional Information

ELIGIBLE GRADUATE STUDENTS, POSTDOCTORATES AND JUNIOR FACULTY MEMBERS WHO WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR TRAVEL AWARD FUNDING MUST:

  1. Be a USA Citizen or a Permanent Resident of the USA. (A copy of Permanent Resident 'green card' will be required.)
  2. Complete and submit this application form including all supporting documentation.
  3. Submit a CV/Resume (including any federal funding support you receive).
  4. Submit a one-page statement demonstrating financial need and identifying potential benefits to be gained, and the anticipated effect this may have on your planned research career.
  5. Submit a letter of recommendation on departmental letterhead signed by the department head/chair or dean. Be sure to include the email address and daytime phone number of your mentor, chair or dean.
  6. Submit any required documentation (copy of green card, tribal affiliation certificate, etc.) if applicable.

All travel award recipients must be approved by the FASEB MARC Program review committee. The FASEB MARC Program review committee will select the award recipients based on all supporting documentation from applicants who are eligible for MARC funding as specified by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Institutes of Health (NIGMS/NIH.) In addition, preference will be given to FASEB Society members.
