HCS President Eduardo Rosa-Molinar to join the judges for the Insight Awards
HCS president Ed Rosa-Molinar was asked by Bitplane and Andor Tech. to be on a panel of judges for the Insight Awards, a competition to promote cutting edge research.
The Insight Awards recognise and promote the cutting edge research conducted by all scientists using Bitplane software or Andor Technology equipment.
Rewarding scientifically captivating and visually stunning images/spectra/graphics and movies, the Insight Awards accept entries from all techniques and applications.
The Awards have four categories:
- Physical Sciences
- Spectroscopy / Spectral Imaging
- Life Sciences
- Imaris
Judged by a panel of experts, and with great prizes, the Insight Awards offer scientists a great opportunity to further publicise their work. For more information or to submit your entry please visit the Insight Awards website.

ICHC 2004 Glick and Pearse recipients awarded Nobel Prize
Dr. Roger Tsien (ICHC 2004 David Glick Award) and Dr. Osamu Shimomura (ICHC 2004 Pearse Prize) have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, along with Dr. Martin Chalfie, for their work with Green Fluorescent Protein.

Julia M. Schmitz, HCS Member and a graduate student in Dr. Robin Lorenz's laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, successfully defended her PhD dissertation and has been awarded a PhD in Microbiology. Dr. Schmitz's thesis title was "Role of the Gastric Ecosystem in Helicobacter associated Gastritis". She was a Lillie Award Winner and a Travel Award Winner at the 2008 Annual Meeting held in San Diego, CA. Her poster presentation was, "Inflammation is Attenuated in Germ-free C57BL/6 Mice Infected with Helicobacter felis".
